Sotheby’s generative art auction nabs $1.2 million, selling out in less than an hour

Storied public sale home Sotheby’s offered 500 items of generative artwork in lower than an hour for $1.2 million.

Created by the artist Vera Molnár and christened Themes and Variations, every bit of digital artwork was “minted instantly upon buy,” Sotheby’s stated in a press release, including that buying and selling quantity on the secondary market had totaled 400 ether (about $754,000) within the hours following the public sale.

Sotheby’s introduced the launch of its generative artwork program final month. Regardless of a downturn in NFT gross sales, the public sale home has lately been moderately profitable when auctioning off digital works, together with a set that after belonged to the failed hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.

The public sale home stated that the sale of Themes and Variations “opened with a ceiling worth of 20 ether” ($37,600).
